Due to recent polling data, reflecting a cent amount of Liberal Democrat voters admiring and expressing positive sentiments about David Cameron, I feel inspired to start a new series entitled Liberal Conservatism: The Blue Liberals. These posts will reflect on centre right issues, which a significant minority of Liberal Democrats voters seem to be endorsing. Topic discussions will be:
- Eurosceptism
- Fiscal discipline
- Small government
- Immigration
- Social cohesion
- Welfare state
First discussion will be eurosceptism and I shall advocate renegotiating our membership to free trade and association; this would allow Britain to build economic ties with emerging economies and sign free trade deals to expand exports, which the European Union restricts. I’ll probably seek to do this once a month and throughout 2012; if it gains significant interest, I’ll make it a permanent feature.
Hopefully, I can post the discussion next week – but no promises. Christmas week and thus I shall be very busy. However, I do hope this new post series proves popular and starts a debate on the possible future of the party.

An interesting topic to explore – as someone who has voted LD but has never felt close enough to join the party outright, I am interested in thoughts on these soughts of issues.
